FREEWARE: A set of utilities collectively recommended by the newsgoup alt.comp.freeware. There is an annual vote on what should be included in the next year's list and what should be removed.

Contributors to alt.comp.freeware will recommend programs they have tried and found to be useful. there are also comments about programs which appear to be useful and are not. Programs are often suggested in response to requests from other users

The group is especially scornful of programs that purport to be free but are in fact trial versions that only work for a limited period and then demand payment to continue working. Note that this is often not apparent until after you have installed the program.

Where do you think I get to know about these programs from?

There should be no Spyware or Adware on this site. All programs should be free - some MAY require registration.
