Members Support PagesPage updated 18 November 2010 |
This page is the starting point for Gerrards Cross Computer Club members who are looking for free/low cost programs or who are looking for help to sort out problems. There are links to several pages containing freeware or related topics. there are also links to other pages giving advice on other subjects. Note that other members are invited to submit links or pages and should advise me if any of the information is out of date.
John is already supporting some members using remote access software. If you are having problems with any Windows XP or Vista computer, and have a broadband connection. this may be a more convenient way of helping you than trying to sort out problems over the telephone. see below for a link to the page where you will find full instructions as to how to install the necessary software.
If you are not yet a member, but have found this page, please come and join us at one of our regular meetings. Click here to go to the Gerrards Cross Computer Club main page
Please note that Javascript is required to email me by clicking on the email links on this page. This is an attempt to deter the spammers from harvesting my email address. Email me for a copy of the code as I have no intention of putting it on this page.
This page, and the pages linked to it, contain programs that members of the Gerrards Cross Computer Club have discovered. It is intended to provide members with links to tried and tested software. All software on these pages will be Freeware (or at least very cheap ware).
If you are a member of the Computer Club please inform the contributor if the link provided does not work or if you need any further information or assistance.
If you have any programs that you can recommend please email
me by clicking on the link
.
Use the contact details in the bit image if the link does not work.
Please give a brief summary of what the program does, the URL, and any
notes that you want to add.
When looking for programs be aware that the term "Beta" software is used for programs that are still not fully released by the author. They are expecting YOU to test their code. It may or may not work correctly. Unless otherwise noted it is usually a good idea to avoid such software unless it does exactly what you want (you need the latest gizmos) or you are able to live with program crashes.
The applications have been classified under the following headings. Click on the link to go to the relevant page.
All of the following pages have been validated and the links updated where necessary. Two new sections have been added.
Note that all the link pages below are now
in XML
format. If anyone has problems accessing them please let me know by
clicking this link
.
Some of these links are now in DropBox (marked *) - let me know if this causes any problems
As I have been writing the advice and supplementary pages I have realised that there may be a need to take a printed copy of the information. With the thumbnail approach for screen shots this would not be easy. With my latest advice document I have therefore changed my approach -let me know what you think. This has been produced as a PDF file (Acrobat Reader or an equivalent e.g. Foxit will be required). This has the benefit that I can add a copyright notice more easily but it remains free for non commercial use.
It is my intention to add to this list as long as I have sufficient space on my ISP server.
The following pages are on other people's sites. they contain very useful information.
Click on the link against each topic on the following pages to contact contributor. Note that some contributors have requested that their email addresses are not published on this web site. Refer to your membership list, or wait for the next meeting, if no address is shown!
For the pages that are held in XML the contributor's email address is not stored on the web site but is created dynamically by the local browser when it prepares the page for display. (Try view source to see what is transferred). It is hoped that this will deter the email harvesters!
